Exhibiting the works

Last weekend (15&16 sept 2012) the paintings got exhibited at the Spinnerei HerbstRundgang in Leipzig. I worked quite hard to get them finished at the end, and this is what it looked like ->

Next step still a bit unsure… will be in Belgium for one week, and also moving to Berlin for a few days, so the quest continues in oktober! See y’all soon!

Something in between

I was invited to do a mural paiting for an urbanartfestival in Halle (D), I guess the “colour project” had something to do with the outcome of this painting. More on the festival you can find here -> http://www.freiraumgalerie.com/
So, back to the small paintings. I want them to be finished by the 15th of this month for an exhibition at LIA. -> http://www.liap.eu/en/ <- drop by if you’re in the neighbourhood !!

Work in(g) process

So, making coloursheme paintings is not as easy as I initially thought… It’s hard not to make them look like candy or sweet paintings for children. So I’ve been working on them for quite a while now, but I guess it will take some more time to make them really work.
For your pleasure -> This is where I stand now…

Started to paint

I made a selection of ten schemes (the ones I like the most) to start working with them on 20 small canvasses. The idea is to make pairs with the same scheme. To have a first layer I started with green and pink which are for me the colours that are the most present in Leipzig. Next to the pairs I hung every time one colour scheme. It looks a little something like this :

I’m planning to work quite fastly on them – so more soon!

46 colourshemes

I’ve mostly been working on creating interesting colourschemes using photoshop. I’ve used the pictures I took (and posted before) to create 46 different colourschemes. I’m thinking of using this images to create a small publication of this research. But I first have to find out how much this is going to cost me 🙂 Anyway, here are the schemes online for you to enjoy! (click on the images to see them up close!)

While working on these I prepared 20 small canvasses and made a first small painting, without using the schemes, but in a way thinking about this project.
I must say I like it…

More adequate search

Today I went walking in the city and took a lot of pictures. Back in the studio I made a selection, did some cut-outs and altered them in Photoshop a bit.
I noticed that Leipzig is literally and figuratively a very layered city. Both in a sense of layers of paint on top of eachother, as layered in old and new stuff mixed up in an interesting way. There are a lot of pastel colours that are contrasting with the bright colours of fresh graffiti. But than sometimes a bright colour comes out from a crack in another layer of paint. The presence of old and new materials as well create an interesting, contrasting and layered dialogue. Enclosed the pictures as the proof of an exciting search!

Yesterday I played around with some watercolourpencils and made my first colour schemes based on the pictures I posted before. Some of them will be usefull for the paintings I’m planning to make.

Pictures before I started this project

Today I’ve been browsing through the pictures I took in Leipzig and Halle before I started with this project. And I found out some of them are quite usefull to work with. Some of them come from the Stasi-museum der “Runden Ecke” in Leipzig, some are from a trip to Halle and others just randomly took… Here they are! Notice how many shades of greenbluepink there are!
